The Government of India started celebrating and observing January 24th as National Girl Child Day from 2008. Its objectives are to highlight and raise the issues faced by girl children of our country, to diminish the gender inequality which is still prevalent in the society, as well as to promote and encourage women empowerment.
Today is a wonderful day, as it is the day we Indians honour, respect, and celebrate the girl child of our country– we celebrate her successes, honour her achievements, respect as well as support her choices. Girls, and women, have been subject to discrimination in India for many years, and even at this time, even in 2022, we cannot say that there is equality of opportunity between boys and girls.

Every day, there is some sort of inequality and discrimination faced by the girls, be it big or small. For this, the Government of India has been trying to establish equality and eradicate gender-based discrimination through many initiatives, like Save the Girl Child, Beti Padhao, etc. The observance of the National Girl Child Day is also one of such initiatives and programs.

It also aims to provide equal opportunities for girls in the field of nutrition, education, jobs, etc. The National Girl Child Day is a very special day for the country – and we must realize the importance and significance of it, and contribute to it in some way, by supporting the girl children of today, who are instrumental and absolutely necessary for the growth and bright future of our nation.
So, today, let us join hands and resolve to make it easier and better for the girls as well as women of our nation, thereby celebrating this day in its true spirit.
